What is the difference between the Adventure Mode and Comfort Mode?
The difference between the two Modes can be summarised by saying that in the Comfort Mode the docastawayers will enjoy a certain level of luxury which will be similar to that which they enjoy in everyday life, or these standards could even be improved (by the category of the rooms, food quality, mode of transport and other services)
If you are not yet clear on the difference between an Adventure Mode and Comfort Mode, here we’ll try to resolve your doubts. You can also fill this questionnaire. about your preferences. Send it to us and we will send an answer within a few hours with the “perfect” islands where we think you would enjoy the best adventure.
Will Docastaway abandon me on a deserted island?
In the majority of the Adventure Mode locations a professional guide will accompany the docastawayers throughout the whole stay. In contrast, in the Comfort mode locations the staff working on the island will take care of every detail so that all is perfect.
However, at some of our destinations in the Adventure mode, there is also the possibility of being alone on a deserted island, without the help of guides.
Do the Docastaway holidays have departures from any country in the world?
Yes. Docastaway adventures are available from anywhere in the world. Flights will depart from the customers’ place of origin and take them to the capital nearest to the archipelago of their destination, and from there the clients will be transferred by private transport (land and sea) to their chosen deserted island.
Can I combine the desert island experience with other touristic destinations of the area?
Yes, of course. Docastaway, being a travel company, offers the possibility of combining relaxing days on your desert island with visiting other places in the area so that you can enjoy typical tourist activities like going on safari, mountaineering, visiting historical monuments, shopping or whatever other interesting activity is normally offered by tour operators.
What languages should I speak in order to enjoy a Docastaway experience?
In the Adventure Mode, basic notions of English will be required to be able to enjoy your adventure as it will be necessary to communicate with the guides. In contrast, in the Comfort mode, this isn’t entirely necessary as communication with the staff of the eco-resort is not essential. Anyway, for those who don’t speak the English language, there are a few islands in the Adventure mode, and more particularly in the Comfort mode, where you will be able to communicate in French, German or Italian.
Is it possible to live the Adventure Mode experience completely alone and without the help of guides on the island?
Yes, this is possible on some of our Adventure Mode islands. For those intrepid docastawayers who wish to spend a few days on a desert island without the help of the guides, Docastaway will provide them with the necessary items for survival, and they will be transferred to the desert island and later picked up whenever they like, to be taken back to the airport.
Does Docastaway guarantee that we will be the only people in the desert island?
Each deserted island that Docastaway offers has its own features and there are only a few where we can guarantee that a person will have exclusive rights. Generally speaking, we cannot guarantee one hundred per cent maximum privacy on the deserted islands as, among other reasons, the islands are not owned by us. Many of the islands in the Adventure Mode are owned by the governments of these countries so it’s impossible to control access to other docastawayers, or local fishermen, who want to visit them, or even live there for a few days. Nor can we guarantee that a Comfort Mode eco-resort will have lower occupancy during any particular week. However, Docastaway has worked conscientiously for several years in selecting the most secluded deserted islands and the ‘least touristy’ eco-resorts where one can feel much more isolated than any other form of beach tourism.
However, if you are particularly interested in having the highest level of privacy as possible, let us know and we will look for the perfect island where you can enjoy it exclusively for yourselves.
Are the adventures individual or in group?
In Docastaway we are working daily to make the adventures as exclusive as possible so that Adventure Mode clients will never find themselves sharing the same island with other Docastaway customers, unless otherwise requested. But in Comfort Mode, sharing the island with other Docastaway clients is unavoidable in most cases.
For what type of people are the Docastaway experiences?
We believe that any true nature lover will enjoy to the full many of our adventures. Nevertheless, we often identify the “perfect client” as a person who simply does not need anything more than a beautiful secluded beach from where to escape everyday life and one who doesn’t need any additional activities. This person is perfectly described in a few lines in this link.
However, we also know that not everyone is satisfied with the simple act of living day after day chilling-out on an idyllic, unspoiled beach. That’s why we have also found other places full of alternatives which will make the adventure more enjoyable for the most restless docastawayers.
It should be taken into account that in order to enjoy a Docastaway adventure, it isn’t necessary to be young and adventurous. We have also prepared a Comfort Mode which is suitable for those who prefer not to make sacrifices on their much desired vacations. If there is anything that our customers have 100 per cent in commune it is their love of deserted beaches and their true desire to disconnect from everyday life.
A “desert island” is actually an uninhabited island... so how is it possible to talk about a “desert island” when you refer to an eco-resort?
Wikipedia defines “desert island” as an island that has yet to be populated by humans. . see definition
Although most of the islands on the Adventure Mode are authentic deserted islands, it is also true that in some of the Comfort Mode ones, and more particularly in the case of eco-resorts, the use of that adjective may be debatable as there could be a small fishing village there, or because some workers live in the eco-resort, or perhaps because there is a tribe inhabiting it.
Really, we find it very difficult to choose the perfect adjective with which to name all our islands. “Remote” or “uninhabited”, “secret” or “solitary” but we can’t be one hundred percent sure.
Perhaps the most correct term would be to name them “barely touristic” but its use is not very aesthetic or functional. Taking advantage of the fact that Wikipedia also adds that the word “desert” has the connotation of “sparsely occupied”, and to avoid confusion from now on, we can determine that each time Docastaway uses the term “desert island”, it will always refer to an uninhabited island, sparsely occupied and non-touristy or barely touristic .
How can I pay for my holidays?
Docastaway adventures can be paid for by debit/credit card, by bank transfer to our Barclays account or with Paypal.
Are the international flights included in the price?
No. International flights are not included in the price as the Docastaway adventures are for people from any part of the world so distances and ticket prices will vary. However, internal flights are usually included in the final price.
Is it more expensive if I travel single?
Yes. In the vast majority of our destinations, the price of accommodation, guides and transportation is shared between the people who make the trip. The final prices shown in our destinations are valid for two people travelling together, so if someone decides to go on the adventure unaccompanied, he/she will have to pay the proportional part of the price of the second person. This would mean paying a surcharge of at least 30% of the final, published price. If you want to know the extra price for travelling alone please contact us.
What dangers do I face on a deserted island?
For most people, ‘deserted island’ is synonymous with tigers, snakes, sharks and so on. The truth is that the uninhabited islands are safe places where there aren’t any tigers, sharks are not a threat, and snakes don’t go near humans. To give you an idea, the greatest danger a person can face on a desert island is of a coconut falling on his/her head!
Should I take out travel insurance?
It is always advisable to have a good travel insurance and we will be happy to help you to arrange it. However, a basic travel insurance is included in the price of each experience of Docastaway.
In case of emergency: Are there good hospitals near the islands?
Most of our islands are in very remote and inaccessible areas. In many cases there are infirmaries which can be reached in less than two hours, but the quality of some of them is not too good. We do not recommend any of our adventures to those with serious health problems.
Do all the islands have good marine life and coral reefs for good snorkelling or scuba diving?
Not all our islands have coral reefs teeming with life. There are some islands where the coral died long ago as a result of sea warming and especially as a result of bomb and cyanide fishing by local people. If you are very interested in having an adventure in an archipelago with first class marine life, let us know it and we will advise you on the perfect desert island.
Can I go scuba diving at all the islands?
On most Comfort Mode islands it is possible to go scuba diving with an instructor. On the contrary, this is less common on the Adventure Mode adventures where docastawayers will have to be content with snorkelling.
Can I practice naturism in these places?
It depends on the island and it also depends on the country. The main object of Docastaway adventures isn’t that of practicing naturism on a deserted beach, although there are islands whose features permit this with no problem. However, clients will decide in each individual case, and in each particular place, whether it’s OK to do it or not. Bear in mind that even on the most remote islands there may be times when a small fishing boat could sail near the island. The fishermen’s attention would be caught and, in countries like Indonesia or India, it could be a reason for docastawayers to lose their “privacy” for a few minutes until they put their clothes on :)
Docastaway always advises to practice naturism with discretion.
With this kind of activity isn’t Docastaway promoting the exploitation of islands which still remain untouched?
Entirely the opposite. Docastaway simply offers people the opportunity to feel and enjoy the world’s last paradises just as they are. The activity of Docastaway is to encourage people to learn to value these wild places, living with the nature found there, without the necessity of modifying it. At the same time, every day we contribute by teaching local people to respect the reefs and hygiene of the seas, so Docastaway helps to create a kind of sustainable eco-tourism in these islands. Moreover, in Comfort Mode, Docastaway has only selected those eco-resorts whose environment has not been exploited. Docastaway’s main interest is to protect these islands against human barbarity. In fact, we are the most interested in helping desert islands to last forever, without them Docastaway would lose its reason for being.
I have searched the names of the islands given on the website and I cannot find any references to them on other pages in Internet
Docastaway renamed many of its islands in order to protect them so docastawayers will be able to enjoy these secluded and secret places with the maximum possible exclusivity.
